Computer - April 2006

Computers are no longer dull number crunching machines used to complete serious tasks within the office and home.
The expectations of entertainment from a computer are well beyond the realms of a nerd trapped within his own little world of warcraft.
Intel with the help of Microsoft realised this and are going to make sure the fat kid gets his cake. Its long term goals have been designed with this world of entertainment in mind.
Both companies aim to work their way into every household by incorperating all the indivdual pockets of entertainment within the house into one media centralised network.

Intels intital steps towards this will be done through the intel Viiv. Viiv certified computers will be released in a stream of hardware and software built with entertainment in mind. Designed around Microsofts Media Centre edition of Windows, it will allow Viiv compatable devices to comunicate with each other.

Intel hopes this technology will allow a user to watch TV broadcasts and movies while recording them onto their computer. Then be able to watch these using the TV in the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. Listen to their mp3 collection from their computer on the living room hifi or the one in the toolshed. This also means that a user will be able to access their Viiv compatible Hi-fi system, Plasma screen, computer, mp3 player and other devices from the comfort of their couch. The mans fantasty will complete once a Viiv compatible living room beer dispenser is created.
